Favorite Strategies/Tactics

TURTLE STRATEGY:

I love playing the turtle strategy. If you can get walls, towers, and a good army up and defending your villagers so they continue working without threat of attack is the best way to keep resources coming in. Then if you build more walls, towers in key strategic positions. Then put a market and a town center as far away from each other as you are willing to stretch your lines, you can gather a lot of gold with just 10 merchants units. Then you can use the extra gold to buy needed resources or trade resources for gold. Then you can crank out the units and if you keep your walls in good order and keep the enemy busy on as many fronts as possible victory is almost assured.

I won a 2vs2 battle as a lvl 10 against a lvl 9 and 10 after my ally had been killed within about 8 minutes of the game starting or so. I had rushed to get walls up and a good amount of spearmen and after getting to the next age had towers in built. My lvl 9 enemy built a forward base on the remains of my former allies base and was trying to keep the pressure on me. I however made him come to me and used my towers, archers and hoplites to beat him back.

Soon enough I had plenty of resources, troops and began to move. I eliminated the enemy's forward base and began a slow march towards the lvl 9's town center (I was sending reinforcements to them and also repairing so towers/walls). Soon enough I beat this enemy and also beat back the troops the lvl 10 sent. I then began the final push and beat the lvl 10 who had suffered alot of causalities trying to save his ally.

While the Turtle Strategy is very effective, it only works when you give yourself time. If your enemy rushes you and your villagers are not gathering for more than 3 minutes or so, you are almost doomed. I personally never rush any opponent. I want to fight the enemy at their and my best or at least after the first 10 minutes of the game (the first 10 minutes I consider a grace period, if you havent attacked me, I wont attack you for a good while).

|||Favourite strategy: Relentless attacking until opponent is overrun.|||I wouldn't recommend a defensive strategy. You never see the best players play defensively. They use their offense as defense.
|||LOL and what happens when your opponents sees that and rushes age 3 makes 3 TCs then rushes age 4 with 4 times your economy?

I approve of this thread.

I myself have tried this a lot and seriously. It works. Unless they get to many siege weapons personally I've done it with priests and ranged units so far, but beware, a good siege with enough force, would make a terriable destruction upon this strategy! But most likely this is going to work if your oppoment is willing to attack you. Been in many maps where you can attack from all sides which is basicly a tough situation but as the saying goes. A good defense is a good offense.

yea it works if he attacks in a horrible position, but as i said earlier what happens when he doesnt attack? you get so far behind it isnt even funny

when i was lvl 20 or so people always this this and i just....didnt attack until i maxed on stupid unit compositions like hops + ballista +ram, those games werent even close but certainly long. I mean if i see someone invest ALLtheir money in defense im not attacking why would i. I'll just get a massive economic lead and crush your turtling ass later.

Okay, okay, settle down :P This is just one of the strategies I use, plus I just started this thread to discuss peoples' favorite strategies/tactics not to down other people cause they play a certain way XD But yes, you can race for an economy if you don't see your enemy attacking you, but that just depends on the game and what info you have on your current enemies moves.

Not saying there is any "perfect" way to play, but you have to play to how the game develops in the first 10 minutes.Like the game I had where it was 2 vs 1 i had to mainly play defense (but my economy was unaffected because I built good defenses/troops) until the time came that I could go on the offensive and then won.

So eh, you can think what you want. Just please keep this thread clean and many talking about your favorite strategies/tactics, if you wanna discuss how you can beat what is said here, start your own thread that refers to this one. Thanks xD

"Best players" is from game to game, when you start a new game you are new, although your past experiences can help. Even the best players can make mistakes and lose epically xD Plus its not like we have anything tracking who won unless you tape it and put it on youtube.

So yeah, thats all i have to say on that :P
