Has anyone done this quest on Elite on Solo..
I managed to (for the first time), finish this quest on Elite in Coop yesterday, but it was damn hard, my survival basically hinged on erecting numerous forts, not much different to how you'd use them to survive on Breaking Eggs.
Have any of you guys managed to get this quest done on Elite but going solo, and if so, what tips do you have for surviving?

As far as i can find, there isn't a video of it on youtube, at least not for this particular quest.
Not sure what you mean about the catapults, i've never seen any, just units and rams.
Also unclear what is meant by the villager and scout attack, surely that's suicide, the enemy starts off with units by the towers doesn't he?
I must have done this quest at least 10 times in the last week. Several times solo (elite). Two things you need to be able to do to be good at this game:
NEVER stop making units. Don't stop making villagers ever. Even when your base is being terrorised by 10 elite spearmen 3 minutes in, don't forget to keep producing. Likewise for military units. Don't get population capped - always have at least one villager creating houses after 3-4minutes. Add a second villager onto house production when you get 3-4 unit production structures.
Economy management: Commonly find yourself sitting on 1500 wood, or suddenly starved of other resources? You're doing it wrong. That would should be spent on more stables/barracks/archery ranges. Don't make farms early - pick berries, hunt animals, fish from the waters. Always think one step ahead - be aware that your gold mine/berry bushes will run out soon, and sent one villager to create a storehouse ready at a new location...
You don't need a single fortress or extra guard tower to beat this quest on elite. If you efficiently manage your economy, and continuously pump out of 4 unit producing structures as soon as possible, it's an easy win. I find it most effective to start with an archery opening (kite with toxotes so you don't lose units, even to pelts/saris). I then swiftly move to Age 3 and work on peltalists. Then I'll be stocking up on lumber and cutting back on archery production to wack down a dozen farms and 4-6 barracks lor stables to spamhoplites/prods, which serve as meatshields whilst my main ranged damage works through the enemy. Battering rams can be useful, though arn't necessary if you've wiped out the opposing army.
Hmm.. I get an armoury after 3-4 archery ranges are up and go for an early upgrade. Similarly, whenever you have excess lumber, build an academy for the 10% faster unit production research.
Mass peltalists in a choke point created by houses/archery ranges around your town center/towers can hold off anything, if you have good gear on them. Don't wait too long to transition into Age 3, but at the same time you shouldn't but stopping unit production to get there. If you kept producing villagers the entire time, you'll be able to get the spare 400 wood for Age up whilst simultaneously producing from 3-4 archery ranges as well as making houses.
|||You guys make it sound so easy to beat this quest, even in Elite. I think it's BS. The problem with this damn quest is that the enemy come and attack very eary, and they never stop coming. I tried managing my economy and producing infantry, but doing so I can only advance to Age 2. I can have enough soldier for the first two attacks, but not for the third, when they come with archers, calvary, and a bunch of others. It takes them less than 3 minutes to destroy my entire town.
Villagers are not able to gather resources fast enough, even with advisors and increasing their carrying capacity. I simply can't beat this damn quest.

The trick is to take out the elite catapultssry, posted this in the wrong topic. Its for elite rougue questI too find it near impossible to finish elite quests. IMO, they should increase the rewards for completing a elite quest|||Played on coop again yesterday, we got an easy game this time, the map that came up was the one where you both get boxed inside a canyon, with cliff areas either side, it made the quest a hell of a lot easier.
Usually the map is more open and tougher, and like the last poster it's usually tough to manage eco, build units and age... it's a tricky quest, but it's definately do-able if you both work together with your coop partner.
Single player i've not managed to complete yet, but i'll be working at it... (i like the challenge - it wouldn't be half as interesting if i never got beat)..
I still find the forts more cost effective, and require far less management, which makes it easier to focus on other things.
I find archers die too easily, but i'll agree if managed, they should do a good job, i tend to find hypas work for the first few waves, then i usually switch to peltasts to counter the archers that follow, from then on it's usually a mixture of the two until i can age again and add Hippi's and Hetairoi into the mix.
S0ulSky, thanks for the tips..
I do much like S0ul Sky said... but slightly different.
First wave you kill by TC/tower fire, just let them hunt your scout around it and they die.
Then I build 4 raxes with hypaspists for some defence (and raid vils if I can). However this will not work very long since computer builds archers, so I advance to age3 and build 4 archery ranges. From here on I just go hoplites/pelts, it works well. Then at end I add some siege to help finish it.
|||I manged to complete it solo on Elite only once mostly because AI acted strange and never finished off my town when it could have easily done it.
I've been trying to pull it off again since but didn't have much sucess. That 3rd wave with a lot of cav. is the biggest problem. It just sets you back too far to recover again.
|||I do this at least once a day on Solo. Yes the opening can be a bit rough but I like it. Generally I aim for a very balanced army. For me I go Hypas first, then a few spearmen and then Tox to back up. Try to bait the first wave into your towers. If your in trouble just use your scout as bait. I usually have about 8 villagers on food to start of with and then expand out into wood and gold. When that third wave hits you want to have alot of spearmen (preferably with Black Iron Horse Catcher) to deal with it. Once the third wave has gone a usually go for T3 so I can get the stronger Pelts and Hoplites.
If your having a big problem with it, it might be your gear. Once you get your gear up this one is challenging but you should still be able to complete it every time. Just gotta get the right balance of troops.
To me this is the best quest in the game. Its not really farmable, its a challenge, it requires a good military balance and gives you a level 40 loot drop at completion. Cant say all that about any other quest.
|||Yeah it's a good quest, generally it's quite challenging... tough but fun...
I'd love to see a vid of someone doing this solo....(a record game option would be great about now, *hint hint* MGS)..

Good gear is necessary, sadly.
|||this quest is easy if you have lvl40 epic gear for toxotes (from shops, with empire points), and a decent gather tool.
all you need to do is spam toxotes, keep producing units at all times, and do armory upgrades if you have spare resources.
for the first wave, just lure enemy units away with your scout, they will follow you long enough to get a decent army up and running.
i'll upload a vid tomorrow, where i finish it solo (dont forget that i have good gear, so it will look easier then it actually is)
