Try coop, it can be much easier with a human partner. Or refine your strategy a bit. Toxotes are quite good vs the enemy early raids consisting of infantry, thanks to the 2x bonus. Then just train the counters to what the computer builds.
Maybe try to level in PvP too.
|||If possible, try and include the names of a few quests which you are finding more difficult, and your player level.
|||Yeah, your probably right about the coop. The problem is I'm still pretty new to the beta having only gotten my key a few weeks ago and I don't know anyone online yet. I've tried watching the Youtube videos and they helped somewhat but I still haven't been able to figure out how to use a lot of the hotkeys yet and it gets kind of confusing when I see the guy in the video doing something and I don't know how he did it. My biggest problem, however, is I'm in a wheelchair with MS and my hand-eye coordination is shot and combine that with the muscle spasms I get with my fingers while trying to use the keyboard and mouse and well...it can get interesting at the least. I'm trying different strategies and I've had some success but I guess it's just a learning curve that I need to get through. Thanks for the advice. I really appreciate it.|||Ok, will do. The severs are down right now with a login issue that they're working on but as soon as they're back up I'll get the names of the ones I'm having trouble with. Thank you!
|||It's easier to get a coop partner without knowing anyone now, just click the coop button on the quest and a link will be automatically posted in the lfg chat channel. Then anyone can join you with just one click.|||I agree with your assessment that the new build has made some quests even harder than before. There doesn't seem to be much interest (from what I read elsewhere on this forum) for "casual" game play. Like you, I dislike games that are so stressful. For me (and I recognize this is just one person's opinion) gaming should be FUN - life is already stressful enough. I had hoped early in the testing process that the developers would get feedback from more people like me wanting a more relaxed option with gaming, but it seems that the "let's make it as hard as humanly possible" opinions are going to win the day. To make a long response short... I feel your pain.|||
Hey Dodger - any specific quests you can mention would be very helpful.
The game allows for a lot more than just setting a quest to be very hard or very easy, or even any single setting somewhere in between. We can actually incorporate a degree of adaptivity. Meaning, the experience can be different based on certain conditions being met, allowing for a single quest to be both more interesting and engaging, but also allowing it to be fun for a broader audience. While this is not something we will do in every case, it is something we want to incorporate more, Having information from the Beta community about the quests that are proving to be the most or least fun, easiest or hardest, is very helpful in targeting the best quests to review first.
Also, we balance our time between fixes for existing quests and development of new content. The Beta input is also helpful in planning details for the new content we are creating - and there is a lot of new content in development!
|||I'll try to be specific with quest names - but I may not get them right. The co-op only quests in Argos are very hard, even with two people fighting off the enemy. The one that's called (I think) "Like Thelma and Louise" was very frustrating. The quest called either "Didn't we fight these guys already" or maybe it was "Why did it have to be bandits" was also terribly hard (in my opinion). Any quest where the enemy just keeps coming and coming in bigger and bigger waves so that you have no chance to build up your resources or your defenses is quite stressful. Also, any quest where the AI is allowed to be at ages higher than the player can achieve is stressful. I should add that I'm an older person and probably not in your target demographic - so it may all be moot. But personally, I don't want to feel my blood pressure go up while I'm trying to have fun playing a game. For what it's worth, and since you asked - it would also be fun (maybe) to have more quests where the goal was to build things up rather than just tear them down - but perhaps I'm hoping for a completely different game. Thanks for listening to my opinions. :)|||Hi, I am certainly no expert, but I discovered that you really need to get some fighting units out early on most missions. I was typically trying to boom and get villager count up before making units and I was caught with little or no army and then each subsequent wave put me farther and farther behind. If you get some 5-6 spearmen before the first wave, that combined with your town center fire can usually take out his army and leave you in decent shape. Add military units as you boom up. I usually throw down a fortress at age 3 if the enemy waves keep getting bigger and bigger. Also, mass priest behind walls are pretty powerful against the AI.
One other little tip, the computer will counter whatever you throw at it, so if you go spearmen, his next wave will be archers, so you need to change your units to archer counter units right after the first couple of waves, before he comes back with those units. Keep doing this and that way you can stay one step ahead of the AI.
Anyway, I am pretty terrible at micro, but with this strategy I have beaten most of the quests and gone back and beaten them on elite. Don't be afraid to restart the mission in the first few minutes if things go badly. Also, some missions are really challenging if you don't have decent gear.
Well, hope that helps. Good Luck!
Gosh and here I am thinking the quests are still super easy. Please dont nerf them they are already way too easy. Im all for a more advanced difficulty setting, but when your smashing through Elites on the highest level quests I dont want to see them get even easier.
and there is a lot of new content in development!
Now this makes me happy :)
Quite possibly much of the problem is 1) the devs listen to the hardcore too much (most devs are ex-hardcore themselves) 2) the hardcore have used things like Moe's and a LOT of time to outfit themseves to the max, thus everything is easy3) these guys are used to programming AoEs which have "save" and a function-able "pause", so you always have time to see what is coming and react accordingly.
Challengecan bea good thing, but devs should always remember:
Challenge is only fun if you win.
...and...
"It's easy" is bragging so it's easy to say and very prevalent on forums and saying "it's too hard" is rare becausemany would think it'spublicly saying "I suck" so most just quietly quit that are struggling.
|||I don't think the game is hard core right now at all. It fairly easy to win in normal mode, and if you do co-op, it...done a lot faster. I'm not a hard core gamer or anything. It fairly easy, you just need to upgrade to 3 age and build the fortress and everything seem to be easy from there, try to protect the fortress in Elite mode.
And if the game is too easy, what is the fun in it?
|||Well yeah. I am a hardcore gamer, but im not what I would consider highly skilled and knowledgeable of the game yet. Casual gamers will be at the level I am at in a short time. Once they get here they arent going to have any challenges when it comes to quests. Without this there will be no interest in PvE. There are only a few quests that require a small amount of effort to keep focussed on at present. Shortly these quests are going to become a joke to me. And because there are only a few of them they will become repetitive.
My belief is the development team needs to emphasize making quests that they dont think people will be able to complete. Because right now the end game content is way too easy. And Im saying this for both hardcore and casual gamers. Once the casual gamers get some experience they will see what Im talking about. There is no challenge. The only challenge is "You complete Me", "We killed these guys already" and "Why must it be bandits". And the only real challenge in these is seeing how quickly you can complete the quests. Sure the casual crowd might struggle with them in the short term but they can always come back to it later and Im sure they will find it easier and this would be better then keeping them all ridiculously easy so there is no challenge at all.
Im in the habit now of picking up a level 20 odd player to do You
Complete Me now just to give it some added difficulty because I
basically have to carry them. Beyond that there is no way I can add any extra difficulty to this quest. So we need more advanced difficulty settings.
I just wanted to reply and say i'm also no pro or expect, but i also find on the whole that the Elite quests are far to easy, please do not nerf the Elite quests, if anything they need to be harder.
@prawn - lol... you complete me isn't hard.. it's been a cake walk since the new build.. One enemy to the left, one to the right and the bigger guy at the top, focus on defense from the start, archers / inf... keep massing until you've held off the first few waves, then take a side each... it's clean sailing from there to get the last guy.
You Complete Me is what i'd consider to be the new farmable, high payment, but easy to complete... bearing in mind it can't be finished super fast, but it's far easier than it should be. Example, asked a guy last night for a game last night, he said he'd never done it on Elite, we still won and ended with saying "You could of done that on your own".. (and i probably could have to be honest).
I'll give you a hola next time i'm logged on if you're up for a game... :)
