I completed the chain last night with my gf.
The strat we used was very simple: Tech for towers, build towers. We are both lvl 30 so had more or less all the relevant star tech: Villagers, Towers, Farms, Wood, Stone. She also had Walls, I had Siege techs.
Start by building groups of 5-6 towers around the base where you think they will come from, and teching up and upgrading the towers as fast as possible. Once you have a few towers down lvl 2 towers are a massive upgrade, and when you get Age 4 and lvl 3 towers they are just ridiculous.Fortressesare good but I only really used them for building siege weapons, as 4-5 towers was so much more powerful.
A second trick that we didn't really need but is funny anyway is to wall off your base in such a way as there is a path they can walk through to get in, but it is really really long, so place a wall going left to right with a gap on the right, then in front of it a wall going right to left with the gap on the left and so on. The AI pathfinding sees a path in which does not involve killing any walls so funnels the whole army along this windy zigzag and gives your towers ample time to wipe them out. (This is the easy way to beat the entire Stronghold series of games too :P).
For the very last one we tried out various army compositions, from 30+ siege engines, to mass priests to mass infantry, but the sheer hp of the pure elite max armies and our level of gear (pretty poor) makes them more or less impossible to fight head on, so we just built a 4 wide line of towers from our base to theirs, and then used the 'siege tank' towers (Palintonons I think) to kill the base once we had a sufficient number of towers.
|||so i finally finished the quest and yeah did it with towers and walls however im assuming my soldiers were powerful enough (im level 28) and they were able to finish them off easily after i had time to build and army
