How to Beat SandStorm Quest (Egyptian Quest)

[:1]

I took some time to put together a quest guide for SandStorm as it was the hardest quest for people to overcome during the Pre-Release, and I imagine that it will be just as difficult for players to figure it out during the full release. You must learn how to mass produce slingers and use them to your advantage :)

You can read the full guide at RTS-Sanctuary's Age of Empires Online Quest Guides Forum.

I hope you guys find it useful. Feel free to request any other guide write ups over at http://rts-sanctuary.com/ and I will be happy to create them as required.

Slingers are a great way, however I did it slightly differently:

I spent the first few minutes focusing on resources to get 3-4 guard towers, placing 2 more at the front gates and 2 more towards the back. Then I used the next wall upgrade to reinforce it.

Next I placed the 12 desert archers so that they cover the hotspots as well as having a villager near the front wall so that it could immediately repair the wall as and when it got damaged.

They did get in from the back, but there were pretty heavily focused on destroying the wall. Towards 1 minute left, things took a turn for the worse, however the 5 spearmen that spawned using up all my resources managed to fend off any significant attack to the town center, meaning over the couse of the 15 minutes it probably lost about 200 health.

I actually ended up having them come in anyway. On the left side which isn't important, I put a couple of slingers just to focus down the ones who could attack the walls. Everythign else I kept up on the bottom right to the top to cover most of the damage. I made a 1:3 ratio of spearmen and slingers just because I did think they would break though and they did. One thing I did was have my workers eventually stop working and had them go into buildings, and only have them come out to repair then pop them back in. It stops the enemy from attacking the building for a bit and focus on the workers, so it saves you some time.

It might not be the most efficient way to finish this quest, but it kind of made it feel epic. Just makes you wonder though what happens after 15 minutes if the enemy just backs off. :o

I actually beat it using a combination of two alternative (and very effective) approaches to this scenario. Here is what I did...

First, I chose not to recruit any more military ground units. I split my initial force of Desert Archers into two groups and sent one group to the northern wall, and the other to the sountern wall. I then tasked most of my villager force on stone, with one on gold, and recruited as many villagers as I could (and continued to recruit them throughout the first half of the scenario), tasking them mostly on stone and wood (with a few on gold to begin with for the wall upgrade). Once researched, the wall upgrade helps stave off the endless hordes for a little while. I then focused on building several Guard Towers. Once those were completed, I built a Harbor, and some Triremes to assist the Guard Towers. It helped me to build a Market, but that would probably be considered an optional thing. With enough towers and triremes, my Town Center didn't take any real damage. My walls were breached about 8 minutes into the game, but after the towers and triremes were built, their usefulness was not essential.

I had attempted to build a nice force of slingers to take out the waves of archers/axemen/spearmen, but they would get torn appart by the elephants (along with those poor walls). I just could not keep up with the endless waves of enemy combatants.

Side note: I remained in the scenario after the 15 minute mark, and the waves of enemies slowed to a very light trickle, and eventually ended completely. Also I found exactly one treasure (which ended up being vender trash).

|||i really need help. After completing this mission, i returned to my home city and received my rewards for this mission. Then, there were two people with quests, one was at the dock and another in front of the town center but i cannot seem to be able to ACCEPT these missions. is it a glitch or something. how can i fix it.|||Did you turn in your old quests? Try logging in and out? Rebooting game?
|||dont know whats so special with this quest i just spammed slingers+ camels. i only used camels when elephants or his camels were trying to attack my slingers. was pretty easy (imho)
|||I used a similar strategy up until you went to the harbor. I just kept repairing the walls and towers. Eventually I built another wall just to the left of the oasis to include the gold and stone on the left side. I built maybe 5-10 units to shore up any wall breaks and keep them off my villagers until the towers tore them up. Villagers were posted by each hot spot to keep repairing walls or to rebuild them in the case of a complete collapse. I believe they only actually broke through 2 times and both times the archers cleaned them up and I rebuilt the walls.
