Saving game in the middle of a quest?

[:1]I exited the game before I had completed a quest and had to start all over again when I came back. Is there any way to exit the game and save my progress without completing the quest?|||

Not that I know of, but there really should be, I can't tell you how many times I've lost connected to Windows live and lost a half hour of work, which is bad since a mmo should be persitant.

They really need to fix it so that If your in the middle of a solo match the game won't auto quit if it loses connection to Windows live.

But the game also need some sort of automatic save.

|||Why on earth would anyone want to save the game in an online game?|||Uh, cuz I'm not playing against others, I'm in the middle of a quest and already spent an hour on it and I have to go do something else and don't want to go back and do the same work all over again.|||Ya I agree, there needs to be a save, because this is annoying losing connection|||

I can't believe the developers would miss such an obvious, fundamental feature. This needs immediate attention! My suggestions is to either autosave or have bots take over (in multiplayer mode) if a player abandons a quest. No rewards should be given if the player doesn't complete the quest himself.

I hope the developers see this.

Yes, seriously this has to be dealt with before anything else. I've just lost connection 3 times this morning, all 3 times well into a hard quest and thus a ton of wasted time. This is a gamebreaker if there ever was one.

I simply don't want to play this game anymore until this has been fixed. And believe me, I really want to - I find the game great fun!

|||

i used some rare consumables during quest and the game lost connection,

when i reconnected the consumables were gone.

If the game cannot save my quest progress then at least i should get my consumables back

|||

I totally agree.

Some of these quests take a lot of time and effort. It seems absurd that you have to sit and play all the way through a quest that may take you an hour without ebing able to stop and go do something else. People have real life responsibilities that just can't wait.

Not to mention sudden disconnections or power outages. >__>

|||Well, you don't have to play all the way through at once. You can pause your game, and be ok. But yes, it's true, if you're disconnected then you'll lose your progress. But you can pause to go to the bathroom or let the dog out or whatever.|||You are playing against others... this is an MMO...|||

Apparently Windows Live has some weird auto-logoff "feature" when inactivity is indicated over a certain period of time. I tend to pause the game to do something, and many times when I return, I find myself logged out, which is very sad.

To the person that made the uninformed response "this is an MMO", no, it's not an MMO... It's a hybrid game, part persistence, Mostly RTS with a robust PvP system. The PvE parts are encapulated quests, and if the player is attempting the quest solo, there really should be some sort of
"continue" feature or "save" feature to allow for real life. Yes, most of us do in fact have real life commitments that are a higher priority than AoEO. Spending an hour on a quest just to have to repeat the quest again because of a lost connection or the fact that the player simply cannot dedicate several hours to completing a scenario is really silly.

PvP on the other hand is a completely different story, as is cooperative play. Those should probably stay as they are.

|||

I agree,

I didnt play aoe 1.. so i dont know, but aoe 2 and 3 all had a save game feature. aoe4 should too. so far i have had the game on pause once for half an hour or so to come back and find out i was logged out automatically , and ive also had the internet randomly turn off on me .... both during quests i had been an hour into.... had to restart them

but i guess the 2nd time around in the quests i had a better idea of what to expect and finish them quicker probably.

would like to save game... Aoe2 even let you save the game when you had a friend playing with you... should be able to in this game too. maybe the person in Microsoft who knew how to write the code to save games is retired now.. cuz its pretty old technology.

|||

Uninformed Response? Do you even know what an MMO is? This is in fact an MMORTS. You merely saying it is not, does not make it so. Either way it doesn't matter. AoEO is not going to allow a save. That is wishful thinking.

"Yes, most of us do in fact have real life commitments that are a higher priority than AoEO." Maybe you should be with those commitments rather than posting on a messageboard out of all things?

And for you to say PvP is a completely different story is just stupid. Those quests you are completing/whining about are used against others in battle.

I must say I agree here, however it seems that some people are just
being..., let's call it stupid by saying that you are playing against others
apparently all the time.

PVP matches are naturally out the question here, however why can't
there be a continue feature or similar for single player quests are co-oping
with a mate.

The live disconnecting and then kicking you out the game sucks balls as well.
however I don't think that it is right you are forced to play until the quest
is finished, people should have the ability to put the game on hold and get on
with their lives and not worry that they might start a quest that would take
long.
