Defense of Arsinoe

[:1]

Suggestions? I was able to establish a firm footing and hold off the computer with camel riders, but even two fortresses was not enough to hold my town center while I attacked the computer's town centers. I gave in around 40-45 minutes after I simply ran out of gold and could not produce food fast enough to fuel my gold purchasing camel rider binge. The computer does not seem to obey resource rules as they showed no signs of burning out.

Walls are a must given the computer's tendency to attack your villagers with fast prodomos, but the occasional elite unit and constant flow of regular units means that my home force is constantly depleting, never allowing me to build up the proper force needed to take down the enemy town centers. I destroyed one stable before my pitiful attack force petered out.

|||I had a lot of trouble completing this quest as well at level 29, turns out camel riders aren't the most effective unit to use, they send a lot of cavalry at you mostly prodromus which do 2.5x bonus damage against other cavalry and have some armor vs other cavalry.I built a little further up from the beach, there is an alcove just north of where you land and just outside one of their bases and on the left side of the map which is easier to defend than the 2 spots on the beach.I trained almost entirely spearmen and upgraded them, i also trained a few priestess of ra to stand near all the spearmen to heal them between waves. Once i got some war elephants out and got to 200/200 population i started by taking out the base on the very left with about 10 war elephants, the rest of my units stayed back to defend. the same 10 war elephants were able to destroy the other 2 town centres.I'm sure there is an easier way to defeat this quest but that's how i managed to do it.|||

Wow! Tried it your way and it was very easy :)

Keys were:

a. Build in the nook on the far left of the map

b. Build only spearmen and then elephants.

I started with 2 barracks and then went to 4, all of the while upgrading my spearmen via the armory upgrades and barracks upgades. Armor is the most important, I suspect. Take out of the civ on the left first, then you can just push after you rebuild a force as the enemy will thereafter only attack from one direction, which means that you can meet the waves as you push out.

Posting so if someone else sees this...

I also initially had troubles with this quest and it was more than a little frustrating facing the endless cavalry waves. I ended up putting my TC in the slight alcove where there is wood, bushes, and gold/stone mines literally right next to it. It's important to note in this quest that they will not build ships whatsoever and the only defenses against it are a couple towers near their one TC. This means all your food production can come from fish, saving you valuable space I walled in my little city, creating a compact area and using spears to gain a foothold, fending off the endless cavalry. Doing this I was able to build up to age 4, where I massed up about 6 war elephants and 2 catapults on the coast, along with a few infantry.

You can then use triremes to take out the guard tower and group of infantry patrolling the neutral cities coast, and land your elephants there to take out the main town center, bring a few infantry to protect the catapults. You can take out the Town center and most of the main cities infrastructure from there, although you will most likely eventually be swamped by cavalry. Groups of 5+ elephants can rush and take out the other two town centers pretty easily.

Just adding to the above, from a Greek perspective:

had tons of problems initially, but got it eventually. Build TC where others say, in the left alcove next to the stone/gold/wood, it's the only viable spot really. Build a Dock asap, since as stated above they will never attack on water. Make a bunch of fishing boats, there are 3000 food close to the shore, and another 2000 just a bit further to the right. You'll need every bit of those fishies.

Then, get two Barracks up asap, and spam Spearmen around the TC while focusing on aging up. You'll want at least 15 Spearmen at all times, but never stop making them, just keep spamming. You'll need them, hehe. Make no other units, only Spearmen. Upgrade them as soon as you can.

Once you manage to get to Age 4, start producing Ballistas. Once you have 4 or 5 of them, grab all Spearmen except 20 or so and travel up the path to the left, nuking everything you find on the way. You may have to retreat and rebuild a few times, wearing them down bit by bit.. Focus on guard towers first so you can survive, then houses, and military buildings. Thrashing their houses early made a big difference to me, it slowed them down considerably (they can't launch new units so quickly).

Good luck! =)

I lost on this quest a few times too. I decided that I need to establish a base fast. I built in the middle of the beach. I fast teched to age 3 and built 3 fortresses right away. I made a bunch of hippokins with about 6 ballistas and destroyed everything easily.

Even in the cove, they're overwhelming. I can't even expand safely because the AI annoyingly targets Priestesses and Villagers first. Three towns Im guessing I could corrall them easily with a wall at one side, I suppose, but my barracks cant compare to 3 guys with what appear to be 4 stables each. You could say build 2 or three raxes, but money once again is an issue. They even eventually get Hippikons. Not a very fair map.

|||I did it first try, I don't see understand what's so hard about it :S.
|||What civ did you use? Egypt has some issues countering the headstart the enemy has.|||

I'm finding this one impossible.. Sometimes I can't even get my Town Center built, I'm attacked so quickly by non-stop waves..

If I'm lucky enough to get the TC build, I can't get a port built unless I dedicate all my troops to guarding it, which means I'll lose my town center.

The longest I've been able to last in this quest is 5 minutes and a handful of seconds..

|||Pinkerbelle, did you try making the Dock right behind the TC? The beach is right where that alcove is, so you should be able to defend both simultaneously. I made the Dock as far to the left on the map as I could, right next to the trees.
|||

I've tried building the TC and dock at the same time in the same location, I've tried building a dock first then moving up to the pocket part of the alcove to build the TC, I've tried ignoring a dock altogether..

No matter what I try, the *second* I start building anything, I've got an unending line of enemies coming straight for my villagers who have no place to go.

|||

From an Egyptian point of view...

I walled off 'my' area of the map and build a funnel using walls, placing towers (enclosed by more walls) next to them, all the cavalry then got penned in in an area filled with roughly 20/25 upgraded Spearmen backed up by Priests, long as they held my base did.

Went on aging up and placing Chariot Archers next to the walls as the waves intensified, another team of (by then almost fully upgraded) Chariot Archers along with Siege Towers to destroy the enemy bases one by one.

|||

*sigh*..

I'm ready to give up.. been working on this quest for 2 days now and it always ends the same.. the game really isn't any fun anymore.

Should I try leveling up Egyptian instead? Would that make a difference?

Have you tried using consumables throughout the quest? It's not the best solution, but its what I had to do because at a certain point you cannot sit to the left. Putting up a couple fotress and fend them off until you can get some seige.
